EthioTrees obtains Sylvera’s highest issuing ARR rating
Sylvera has awarded EthioTrees an A rating, the highest full ex-post rating held by any currently issuing ARR project on their platform.
This milestone reflects a decade of continuous efforts: restoring degraded communal land through exclosures, embedding agroforestry systems that give smallholder farmers a direct stake, and channelling carbon revenues consistently to participating households.
It also reflects a deliberate methodological choice. EthioTrees operates under the Plan Vivo Climate Standard, built around community co-design, equitable benefit-sharing, and transparent monitoring. Sylvera’s assessment mirrors this foundation, with particularly strong scores on additionality and co-benefits, confirming that the project is not only delivering real climate impact but also generating credible and measurable environmental and social benefits.
Behind the A-rating
Sylvera evaluates projects across four pillars: carbon accounting accuracy, additionality, permanence, and co-benefits. An A rating signals strong performance across all four, indicating credible, measurable climate impact with limited risk of over-crediting or reversal.
Accounting
Each credit represents one tonne of CO₂e, with no over-crediting or leakage.
Additionality
The emissions reduction would not have happened without the project.
Permanence
The carbon impact is durable and not reversed over time.
Co-benefits
The project generates measurable social and environmental value alongside its climate impact.
Why it matters?
In a market defined by uncertainty, an independent validation matters. For buyers, it means reduced due diligence burden and greater confidence that credits represent real, additional, and durable carbon removals.
A-rated ARR projects are scarce, and fewer still deliver removals at scale. EthioTrees achieving both is what makes it truly exceptional.
